Ashford: Snowdogs Art Trail launches, based on Raymond Briggs' classic story

We may have just said goodbye to summer, but two snowy characters are set to step onto the streets of one Kent town.

The Snowdogs art trail comes to Ashford for 10 weeks, and features The Snowman and The Snowdog, from Raymond Briggs’ classic story - 40 years old this year.

Thirty five artists were commissioned to turn their designs into sculptures in key locations around the town for everyone to enjoy from streets and parks to public spaces.

The trail will be on display from Wednesday, September 12 to Saturday, November 17, creating a festive feel in the lead-up to Christmas.

Each week of the trail will be themed around a different topic from the books, including love, loss, dreams and empathy.

The project is being delivered in partnership with Wild in Art, and Penguin Ventures, part of Penguin Random House and owners of The Snowman™ and The Snowdog brand.

Charlie Langhorne, Wild in Art director, said: “Our events are designed to bring the enjoyment of public art to everyone while offering new ways for people to explore their local area. It will be a fantastic spectacle and is an excellent way to raise vital funds for the hospices.”

Each Snowdog will later be auctioned by Pilgrims Hospices to help raise funds.
