Pip the cherry spitting record

The annual Cherry Festival is taking place at Brogdale, Faversham, and visitors are invited to try to beat the world record for the longest cherry stone spit.

American Brian Krause holds the title, 28.5m, but Brogdale is hoping to bring it home to Kent.

Manager Bernie Cranfield said: “It is the first time we’ve attempted a world record. As we are the largest collection of fruit in the world it would be the “cherry on top” if we won the title!”

It is the sixth festival organised by Brogdale and tractor trailer tours around the orchards will be running all weekend.

Activities on offer for younger visitors include a craft workshop, teddy bear parachute and storytelling, and refreshments will be on offer in the Mad Hatter’s tea party cafe.

Peckish visitors of all ages can also try their luck in the cherry pie eating competition.

The festival runs from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21. Tickets are £8 for adults, free for children aged three to 15. Call 01795 536250 or visit www.brogdalecollections.co.uk
