Silent Disco Dash at Hop Farm Paddock Wood cancelled

A silent disco dash, which was set to welcome Radio 1's Greg James as DJ, has been cancelled due to low ticket sales.

Drivetime DJ Greg was scheduled to guide runners through the course at the Hop Farm in Paddock Wood next month.

Participants were invited to run, jog, walk and swagger through a 5k or 10k event in aid of breast cancer charity, CoppaFeel! while listening to their favourite tunes.

The organisers believed it was the first time a silent disco had been combined with a charity run, but have today announced the event is not financially viable.

Maren Sheldon, director at CoppaFeel!, said: "It is with deepest regret that we have been forced to cancel the Silent Disco Dash at the Hop Farm.

"We are passionate about putting on events that not only give participants a really great experience but also raise funds to enable us to continue our important work.

"Due to low ticket sales we had to make a call on the financial viability of the event and the knock on effect on the quality and feel of the event.

"Greg James is still very committed to our charity and together we’re going to create a different type of silent disco event, which we’re hoping to arrange for early next year.

"Thank you to everyone involved in the planning of this event and to everyone who signed up."

Greg became a patron for the CoppaFeel! charity in 2013 after hearing about the work through his former colleague, Fearne Cotton.

He said: "I think it’s really important that people know breast cancer is common in women and young men as well, for me it’s really important to be involved in.

"It’s quite a privilege to spread the word and use the powers I have, not like a superhero, but the different platforms and followers I have access to can help get more people into fundraising."
