Two arrests after attempted robbery in Maidstone Road, Paddock Wood

Two men were assaulted in broad daylight after a group of people attempted to rob them.

The pair were in Maidstone Road at its junction with Commercial Road in Paddock Wood, when they were asked for a lighter by a group of people who were standing near a bench.

One of the men was then allegedly assaulted by members of the group as they tried to steal a saw he was carrying.

It is reported the second man was also assaulted before both victims ran away.

The incident is said to have happened at around 5.50pm on Saturday (May 20).

Officers attended the scene and later the same day arrested two men in connection with the incident.

The suspects, aged 19 and 21, were bailed to return to the police station pending further investigation.

PC Owen Rixon, of West Kent CID, said: “An investigation is underway into the circumstances and we are urging witnesses or anybody with information to call our appeal line.

“Motorists with dashcam and residents with private CCTV are also asked to check for relevant footage between 5.50pm and 9.30pm.”
