Sussex Police launch witness appeal after 70-year-old man from Blackham struck by lorry on the A264 East Grinstead Road

Witnesses to a crash that took a 70-year-old man's life are being urged to come forward by the police.

The victim, who was from Blackham in East Sussex, lost his life at 7.40am yesterday after he was hit by a lorry on the A264 East Grinstead Road, close to the junction with Ironchurch Lane.

The pedestrian died at the scene and the lorry driver, a 22-year-old man from Tunbridge Wells, was uninjured.

The A264 was closed for more than six hours while officers investigated.

PC Nigel Dunn said: "We need to speak to anyone who saw the collision or either the man or the lorry in the moments beforehand.

"If you have any information about what happened, please contact us."
