4,000 hit by power failure

SOME 4,000 people were left without electricity supplies on Tuesday after equipment failed at a Kent power station.

Power was lost to parts of Tunbridge Wells and Southborough during the afternoon, and some 300 homes did not get supplies restored until late into the evening.

EDF Energy, the recently merged London Electricity and Seeboard group, apologised to customers and said the failure had been caused by a fire at a sub-station.
