Huge leak in Victoria Parade, Broadstairs, sends water spraying high in sky

A massive leak erupted in Broadstairs, sending water high into the air.

Southern Water engineers were called to the scene of the burst main in Victoria Parade.

Video captured at about 10am today shows a huge towering spray of water shooting above nearby houses on the street.

Cllr Becky Wing (Green), who captured footage at the scene, said: “Some workmen are standing around but it is a high-pressure water mains.

“I just hope households and businesses aren’t affected by it.

“It is as high as the two-storey houses.

“There are workmen on site but I don’t think they can do anything because it’s under such high pressure.

“It is very powerful and I don’t think you could stand over it.”

A Southern Water spokesman confirmed: “The repair been carried out and was finished just before 1pm today.”

Meanwhile, a hosepipe ban came into force in parts of Kent on Monday as demand for drinking water reached record levels this month.

Bosses at South East Water say the situation means it has left them with “no choice” but to introduce restrictions for their customers.
