Man arrested near Margate beach after Kent Police officer spat at

A man was arrested after a police officer was spat at while on patrol at a popular seafront.

The incident happened in Marine Terrace near Margate beach as crowds flocked to the seafront yesterday.

Officers also stopped a group of youngsters during patrols on Margate seafront yesterday afternoon.

A craft knife was found in a bag being carried by one of the group and a 17-year-old boy from the Sheerness area was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Later the same day, an officer was spat at while on patrol in Marine Terrace.

A 20-year-old man from the Herne Bay area was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and taken into custody.

A police spokesman said: "Officers will continue to carry out proactive patrols in the area to ensure the town remains a safe place to live, work and visit."
