A man who allegedly left a hammer embedded in a teenager’s skull at a flat in Margate has appeared at Maidstone Crown Court.

Joseph Williams was due to enter a plea to an attempted murder charge but the hearing was adjourned until September 24 after a judge heard a psychiatric assessment was not ready.

The 20-year-old is alleged to have attacked Connor Huntley, 18, at the flat in Athelstan Road on May 28.

Williams was of the same address but is now detained in the Trevor Gibbens Unit at Maidstone Hospital.

A previous hearing was told the teenager was found by police lying on a bed with the hammer lodged in his head. He was airlifted to Queen’s Hospital in Romford with serious injuries.

A provisional trial date has been set for November 4.
