But police confirmed today the vehicles have left the area.

It follows enforcement action being taken by the council and police.

In a statement, a spokesperson for TDC said: "We were made aware that a large number of traveller vehicles had arrived at the car park at Minnis Bay on Monday.

"Kent Police were aware of the unauthorised encampment and council officers attended to carry out welfare checks.

"Police confirmed today that the vehicles have now left the area, following joint enforcement action taken by the council and Kent Police."
