Shopkeeper tells of Broadstairs gun robbery as man arrested

A shopkeeper threatened at gunpoint has told how his three children were upstairs at the time of the raid.

An armed robber burst into Kingsgate Newsagents in Broadstairs at about 4.15pm and demanded cash from Logendran Krishaniplli.

The 43-year-old, who has managed the shop for two years, says he handed over £400 before the gunman fled.

"The man came into the shop and he was covered up, but I thought nothing of it because of the rain," he said.

"He then just got the gun out. I was OK though. I kept calm and gave him the till money.

"For £400 it's not worth going to prison for, is it?

"I used to work in Catford which is a rough area, but when I was in London nothing like this ever happened.

"This is the first time in my life someone has pulled a gun on me and it happened in Kent. "
