Driver catches on camera moment car narrowly avoids crashing into him in Sittingbourne

A driver narrowly avoided hitting another vehicle going the wrong way down a one-way road in Sittingbourne.

Iain Blacklock had just dropped off his daughter in the town centre and was driving back towards his home in Milton Regis when the incident happened.

In footage captured on his dashcam, Mr Blacklock can be seen turning into West Street where he is immediately confronted with another car in his lane, which he quickly dodges.

The 47-year-old said: “I came round the corner and I could kind of see him coming out of the [Lidl] junction.

“It was a single male driver and he kind of looked at me as if I was in the wrong.

“He was lucky more than anything - if he had been further down the road it could have been quite nasty.”

After the video was posted on social media website Facebook, a number of people commented that the driver probably got confused leaving the Lidl car park on West Street because of inadequate signage.

One wrote: “This is an easy mistake to make, my mum did it the other day and had to turn around up by the church.

“It’s easy to forget it’s one-way - they need a sign or something put up.”

Another said: “The exit from Lidl is an accident waiting to happen.”

A spokesman for the German-owned company said: “I can confirm this is something we are aware of and we are taking steps to ensure that it is resolved.”
