A popular post office will close its doors temporarily as of 5.30pm on Monday.

The future of the shop in High Street, Milton Regis, is under threat as the sub post master John Stephens is retiring.

The business is housed in a Grade II listed building with living accommodation above.

It has been on the market for two years but a buyer is yet to come forward.

The Post Office is appealing for people to come forward and take it on.

A spokesman said: "We understand customers in Milton Regis will be concerned about the future of services in their area.

"I would urge any potential retail partners interested in running the post office to come forward as soon as possible."

Anyone interested in the vacancy is urged to contact Agent Services, Post Office Ltd, HR Service Centre, Stone Hill Road, Farnworth, Bolton BL4 9XX.

Alternatively call 0845 601 6260 or visit the post office’s vacancy website www.ukpo.co.uk
