New uniforms for firefighters

Firefighters from across the South East have been kitted out with a safer and smarter new uniform.

The change of uniform is taking place as the existing contract has ended and by joining together with eight other services from around the South East - money has been saved.

AS of this week, all staff will be seen in the new uniform, but instead of having Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) on, it will say just Fire and Rescue Service as it is region-wide.

The collaboration has saved KFRS around £8,000 and it is hoped further savings will be made in future years.

The uniform is made up of dark blue shirts and black trousers and will be worn by firefighters under their protective fire clothing and when they go out on public duties.

All the old uniforms will be collected in and recycled, with the proceeds going to the Fire Fighters' Charity.
