Sittingbourne boss Gary Abbott saw his side lose their unbeaten home record in Ryman League Division 1 South on Saturday

Sittingbourne boss Gary Abbott was left frustrated as his side ‘battered’ Ryman League, Division 1 South leaders Met Police on Wednesday night, only to suffer a 1-0 defeat.

Bourne’s side has taken on new look in the past week with striker Tom Bradbrook joining Margate and Joe Horlock being released while Dartford academy teenagers Billy Eves and Connor Heffernan and Cray’s Charles Ishankie have arrived.

Abbott was proud of Saturday’s 1-0 win at Walton & Hersham but said his players didn’t get what they deserved at Met Police.

The only goal came after a mix-up at the back on 32 minutes saw Joe Dowley’s backpass to stand-in keeper John Whitehouse chased down and the rebound from the keeper’s kick falling to Craig Watkins to score.

Abbott said: "I can’t believe we didn’t get something. They are top of the league and they just didn’t know how to handle us. We played so well and could have scored three, had a penalty and had one which went over the line."

Keeper Matt Reed (hamstring) could return tomorrow (Saturday) for the visit of Worthing, but Hicham Akhazzan (groin) will miss out.
