Kemsley: Fire crews called to Morrisons Distribution Centre

Fire crews were called to Morrisons Distribution Centre this morning.

They were called at about 9.10am to a small fire in an industrial dishwasher in the staff canteen after an electrical fault.

Sittingbourne crew manager Mat Barney said by the time they arrived, staff had investigated the rest of the building and isolated the electricity supply.

He added: "On our arrival they had marshals at every junction and directed us to the canteen very quickly.

"We were able to take the machine apart and put out the very small fire inside.

"It was a textbook evacuation by their fire marshals."

Crews left the warehouse, which is next to the Maidstone-bound A249, at about 10.30am.

A Morrisons spokesman said: "We evacuated the site as a precaution after we noticed a fault with some electrical equipment. The fire brigade attended."
