Police are turning to Sittingbourne Messenger readers in an effort to find a motorist who ran an 81-year-old woman down.

The pensioner suffered leg and head injuries after she was knocked to the floor by a vehicle reversing out of a space outside The Forum.

The accident happened at 12.30pm on Saturday, December 17, but police have only just released the details in a bid to try and trace the woman driver.

She did stop and give initial care to the elderly woman but left once an ambulance crew arrived.

It’s reported that she was driving a large people carrier, possibly purple or black in colour, with a young child in the back.

The injured woman was admitted on to a ward at Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham.

Investigating officer Sgt Jason Hedges said: "Fortunately, the injured lady did not suffer life-threatening injuries but I would appeal to the driver – or anyone else who has any information – to get in touch so we can conclude our inquiries."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sgt Hedges via email on 11091@kent.pnn.police.uk – alternatively, you can call the non-emergency number 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
