Early morning search launched for woman in sea off The Leas, Minster, Sheppey

An early morning rescue operation was launched after a woman was spotted in the sea.

HM Coastguard teams from Sheppey and Medway helped the RNLI, police and medics with the search off The Leas in Minster, Sheppey, at about 12.50am.

The coastguard helicopter was also used to search for the woman.

She was seen out of the water but cut off by the tide under the cliffs.

Once she was found at about 2am the RNLI went in, picked her up and took her back to The Leas where she was handed over to medics.

She was then taken to Medway Maritime Hospital with a leg injury.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it was called to help at about 1.40am.

Police confirmed they were called to help in the search.

Everyone was stood down at 3.30am, according to HM Coastguard.
