Speak out about your noisy neighbours

Don't suffer in silence if noisy nuisance neighbours are making your life a misery.

That's the message from Swale Council, which has organised an event in Broadway, Sheerness, on Tuesday.

As part of noise action week enforcement offers will be in the town centre to advise residents about how to deal with their problems.

People can also find out about the council's out-of-hours reporting service and could be in with a chance of winning a quiet washing machine.

Enforcement officer Malcolm Hewson said: "Most noise related issues can be resolved by the two parties communicating with each other, without confrontation."

The council can serve abatement notices to households or businesses requiring those responsible to stop making unreasonable noise. Failure to comply with a notice is a criminal offence and in worst case scenarios could result in a £20,000 fine.

The enforcement team works with the anti-social behaviour unit and other partners such as Swale Mediation Service, Swale Housing and Kent Police.

To report nuisance noise contact Swale Council’s customer service centre in confidence on 01795 417850. For major noise incidents call 07881 817601 and leave a detailed message about your complaint and a contact telephone number and an officer will call you back.
