Rush hour drivers are facing traffic chaos after a break-down and an accident on the Sheppey Crossing this afternoon.

A van broke down on the Sheerness-bound side of the crossing at about 4.10pm, which caused tail-backs.

Police were already on the scene when an accident happened about half an hour later.

An HGV was involved in a collision and an ambulance has been called but the driver is conscious and not thought to be badly injured.

The Sheppey Crossing was closed Island-bound from 5pm and traffic will be diverted over the Kingsferry Bridge.
