Multi-car crash closes Marine Parade in Sheerness, leaves young girl and woman in hospital

A crash involving several cars has closed a main road into town this afternoon.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Marine Parade, Sheerness shortly after 1pm.

Two fire engines - one from Sheerness station and one from Eastchurch station - were also sent to deal with the collision.

An ambulance spokesman has confirmed a young girl and a woman have been taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for further checks after suffering minor injuries.

The youngster is said to have suffered injuries to her neck.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said all people were out of the cars before their crews arrived.

He said: "They were given a bit of first aid to check them over, but crews were not required for anything else."

They left just after 1.30pm.

It is not known how many vehicles were involved.

Police said four cars, the fire service said two and an eye witness said three.

Officers have closed Marine Parade from Invicta Road, opposite Cain's Amusements, to Richmond Street.

A spokesman said: "The road is currently closed while work is ongoing to recover the vehicles."

Drivers should expect delays in the area.
