Sittingbourne man arrested as riot police storm Sheerness house

Part of a Sheerness road was closed this morning after reports of a man with knives.

Kent Police were called to Clyde Street at 6.55am in response to a domestic incident.

Officers with shields and stab vests began negotiations and a 23-year-old man, from Sittingbourne, was arrested. He is now in police custody.

A police spokesman said two knives were found, but there were no threats to use the weapons.

Police were seen going into a property wearing stab vests and holding shields.

The road was closed at its junction with Alexandra Road at about 9.20am.

Kent Police apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked residents for their cooperation.
