The Island’s MP is calling for members of his constituency who may be entitled to compensation after the near collapse of a pension company to contact him.

Sheppey MP Derek Wyatt (Lab) is asking people who were affected by the Equitable Life fiasco in 2000 to write to him at The House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA, or email wyattd@parliament.uk

Parliamentary ombudsmen Ann Abraham has announced that Government regulators were guilty of maladministration after the company closed its doors to new customers and claimed its clients’ investments were worth more than they were leading to the value of their policies being slashed.

Ms Abraham has recommended that the Government compensates investors.

Mr Wyatt said: “I have been contacted by about 25 people but I am sure there are more out there. I intend to hold a private meeting with policy holders in early October.”
