Minster Cricket Club are celebrating winning the Shepherd Neame Kent League Division 3 title – and their third promotion in four seasons since joining the league.

The Island side went into Saturday’s final round of matches one point behind leaders Upchurch, but Minster demolished Gravesend by 10 wickets while Upchurch slipped to a 72-defeat at home to Catford Wanderers.

It meant that Minster finished the season as champions on 235 points, with High Halstow – who beat OD CUACO on Saturday – leap-frogging Upchurch to finish runners-up on 232. Upchurch had to settle for third place on 225 points.

Minster captain James White said: "As our game finished early, myself and a couple of the other lads nipped over to Upchurch to watch their game and Catford, as I thought they might, did us a massive favour."

Opening bowlers Mike Rees (3-14) and Nathan Nichol (2-16) were Minster’s principal match-winners again as Gravesend were removed for 66.

Minster openers Mark Tucker and Andy Hosken then knocked off the required runs in just 11.2 overs.
