Millions of pounds of cocaine hidden within a shipping container has been seized at Sheerness docks.

Each bag was stuffed with shrink-wrapped packages that later tested positive for cocaine.

An investigation has been launched by the National Crime Agency’s Border Policing Command.

"It is safe to say this is a multi-million pound detection" - Mark Kennedy

Border Force assistant director, Mark Kennedy, said: “This detection demonstrates the crucial role the Border Force plays in keeping dangerous drugs off the streets of the UK.

“Tests are still being done to establish the purity of the cocaine and therefore its value but it is safe to say this is a multi-million pound detection.

“We are determined to do all we can to stop drug smuggling and work with law enforcement partners to bring those responsible to justice.”
