Homes left without power for 20 hours

More than 40 properties were left without power for almost 20 hours.

In total, 46 homes in the James Street area of Sheerness lost their power supply on Tuesday evening.

It was not restored till around 2pm yesterday and was due to an underground electricity network fault.

A statement from EDF Energy said: “After we became aware of the issue at 7.12pm yesterday (May 27) our staff attended and carried out initial investigations.

“It was not possible to restore supplies last night so we returned today (May 28) and carried out work to our underground electricity network which restored power to everyone at 2.10pm.

“We do understand the inconvenience this caused and our customer relations team will be writing to customers to explain and apologise.”

Richard Taylor, of James Street, said: “It was strange because me and my next door neighbour had lost power but a friend two doors up hadn’t.

“It went down before we had all the rain on Tuesday night.”
