Hundreds of pounds has been raised at a family fun day organised by a teenager in memory of her grandfather.

Shannon Mitchell,of Harps Avenue, Minster, hosted the fundraiser at the Old House at Home pub, High Street, Sheerness, on Saturday.

There was plenty going on from stalls including cakes and crafts to face painting, a bouncy castle, Sheppey FM and psychic readings by DK and Star and there was even a visit by Mickey Mouse.

In the evening there was a talent show where a number of youngsters performed.

About 200 people went along and it raised £730 which will be split between Cancer Research UK; Sands , which supports people dealing with the death of a baby; and the New Road Community Centre in Minster.

The 19-year-old decided to organise a fundaiser as she lost her grandad Ted Mitchell to cancer in 2011.

Shannon said: “It went really well.

“The whole community came together and supported each other.

“I’d like to thank everyone who came along – I was a bit overwhelmed when I found out how much it had raised – I’m really pleased.

“Thanks also to The Noise on Sheppey which helped the event run smoothly.”
