2 hunted after robbery bid at supermarket

POLICE are looking for two men following an attempted armed raid on a Securicor van at a Kent supermarket.

Officers were called to Tesco in Bridge Road, Sheerness, shortly before 7.30am on Saturday.

It is believed one of the men may have been armed with a hand gun. But Kent Police press officer Jon Green said: "No shots were fired."

The offenders who fled empty-handed in a silver-coloured car and detectives are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time.

It is the second incident of this type in the area in as many weeks. On Good Friday, an armed robber made off with almost £1,000 after an early morning raid at the nearby McDonald’s restaurant.

Witnesses are urged to contact Swale area police on 01795 477055.
