HIGHWAYS bosses have taken a wrong turn in their bid to reduce lorries taking short cuts through Kent villages, says one action group.

That was the verdict on Kent Highways’ plans to carry out a survey of roads unsuitable for HGVs that are currently appearing on satnav guides, as reported in the KM last week .

John Wilson, chairman of TRAMP (the South West Maidstone Traffic Management Partnership) said: “Of course, getting the satnav manufacturers to adjust their guides will help, but it is not really going to address the big problem which is the sheer volume of HGVs on the county’s rural roads.”

Cllr Wilson (Con), chairman of East Farleigh Parish Council and Maidstone council ward member for Coxheath, accused Kent Highways of sitting on its hands rather than tackling the bigger picture.
