Young boxers to raise thousands in charity event at Winter Gardens

A boxing tournament in Margate is set to raise thousands of pounds for local good causes.

Ramsgate Boxing Club, which meets three times a week in Bellvue Road, and the local Rotary Club are hosting a sell-out charity evening at the Margate Winter Gardens on Friday (February 13).

Last year’s event raised around £40,000 for local organisations, including the Kingfisher Children’s Centre in Broadstairs and Demelza House children’s hospice in Sittingbourne.

More than 500 ringside seats have been snapped up and the audience will be treated to 10 separate bouts and dinner.

Anthony Patworth, chairman of Ramsgate Boxing Club, said: “This event is great for charity and it’s great for the kids too.

“When they first come to us they want to be tough, but they have to be disciplined and want to take part. They can’t just be pushed into it by mum and dad.”
