Phil Gallagher read Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson to the children of Chantry Community Academy’s Carle Class.

The children from the Gravesend school won the story-time session, along with free-entry tickets to Hemsley Conservation Centre near Vigo, through a Walk to School challenge.

They had recorded the most impressive monthly figures for schools taking part in the KM Charity Team’s green travel schemes Super Wow and Green Footsteps.

Super Wow coordinator Sarah Clyne said: “Many congratulations to Carle Class and thank you so much to Phil.

“These story-time sessions are such a lovely prize, and are just one of the benefits of schools taking part in Super Wow.

“By encouraging more of their pupils to walk, scooter or cycle to school, schools also gain from healthier and more alert children and a safer, healthier and more relaxed environment for those children to learn and develop in.”

Super Wow encourages families to walk to school, with classes competing each week to be awarded the Green Class of the Week Trophy.

Monthly inter-school green travel challenges award winning classes tickets to leisure attractions or visits by storytellers.

The scheme is supported by Whites Transport, Ashford International Hotel, Orbit, Volker Highways, Countrystyle Recycling, Golding Vision, Specsavers, Eurostar, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Whitefriars, Kent, Maidstone, Bexley, Medway and Ashford councils, London Array and EduKit.
