Gillingham midfielder Josh Wright says signs are positive under new boss Ady Pennock

Josh Wright believes Gillingham are heading in the right direction.

The Gills have drawn their last two games, at Sheffield United last weekend and at home to Shrewsbury on Saturday.

They remain dangerously close to the League 1 drop zone but Wright is pleased with their progress under new head coach Ady Pennock.

Wright said: “No matter who it is (in charge), it will always take time, it’s a new formation, a new structure and there is a lot to take on.

“We are getting there and we will keep working hard. We have had a few weeks and there has been a difference. I am adjusting my game but it is still football, it’s still 11 v 11 and you have to work hard first and foremost. That is what we are doing.

“We are all pulling together now in the same direction and we have to keep going. I am sure we will be fine.

“It was a fantastic result against Sheffield United. It shows what we have in this dressing room. It’s a shame it wasn’t three points but we took one and that’s a positive.

The Gills bossed the first half against Shrewsbury but let them back in during a disappointing second half.

“In terms of chances maybe a point was fair,” admitted Wright. “Once we got that first goal maybe half-time came too quick.

“If we got the second goal, the game was over."
