Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh prepared to chop and change but believes he will restore winning habit

Boss Justin Edinburgh is confident Gillingham will find the winning formula.

Injuries and inconsistencies have hindered the Gills so far this season and they lost 2-0 at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, a defeat that leaves them in the bottom half of League 1.

Edinburgh said: “It is a challenge but it’s not like we have lost four or five on the bounce.

“It is frustrating, you think you have got it but then Scott Wagstaff can’t be risked and then Bradley Dack, 15 minutes in, gets injured. It is a challenge but we will find the formula to put it right.

“The consistency is missing and we are not going to show any consistency with the gifts that we are giving. I have to look at myself and to find that team that is going to show that consistency.

“If it takes chopping and changing until we find it then that’s what it will be."

Wagstaff (calf) and Dack (hamstring) are the latest in a long line of injuries this season.

Edinburgh said: “A lot of the injuries we have had have been impact injuries. Cody (McDonald) had an impact injury to his heel and Ryan Jackson had an impact into the hip.

“We have had Aaron Morris, Lee Martin and Bradley Garmston (out long-term). Nothing has changed and nothing is different in the preparation. You get phases when it happens."

Loan defender Baily Cargill has yet to appear, building up to full fitness at parent club Bournemouth, but he could be involved next weekend.
