Riverside Primary School in Rainham recreates Elton John classic music video to remind pupils 'We're Still Teaching'

Medway schools may be shut temporarily but teachers have not gone anywhere.

That's the message from a new music video put together by staff members at Riverside Primary School in Rainham.

Reception teacher Miss Paterson put her musical production skills to the test as she reworked the classic Elton John number "I'm Still Standing".

She said: "I wanted all of the staff to be involved in creating something fun and exciting for the children during these tough times.

"All of the staff at Riverside Primary School were onboard straight away and our deputy head teacher was quick to find a song and rewrite the lyrics.

"Staff members sent their videos to me, so that I could edit it all together. It took a few days to finalise, but it was definitely worth it in the end.

The result was a rousing rendition of "We're Still Teaching" to remind their near 300 pupils they were there for them during the pandemic.

Everyone including teachers and cleaners contributed to the project which recounted some of the more comical moments of lockdown, such as receiving video calls while just out of the shower.

There was even a guest appearance for Eddie, the school's popular therapy dog who plays with children at break time.

Riverside Primary continues to teach and support pupils online and through digital resources.

The school also caters for a small number of pupils with education health care plans for autism and visual impairment.

Miss Paterson hoped the video would go some way towards letting the children know they were missing them.

She added: "The Riverside community has been incredible during these difficult times – parents and carers have shown their ongoing love and support and we couldn’t thank them enough.

"This was our way of showing the children, parents and carers, that we will continue to be there for them, we will remain positive and we will carry on teaching, even if it’s through technology."
