A man was pronounced dead on a service station forecourt after suffering a suspected heart attack.

Ashley Vance, who is thought to be in his 50s, was being driven to hospital by a friend when it is believed he became unresponsive.

It is thought Mr Vance complained of feeling unwell at his home on the Isle of Grain.

When his friend pulled into the service station and ran into the shop to get help, sadly Mr Vance had already passed away.

The incident happened at the Four Elms Service Station, Main Road, Hoo, not long before 1pm.

It is believed a first aider who worked at the site rushed to see if they could help him, but it was too late.

Since Mr Vance's death, floral tributes have been left on a lamppost outside the garage by his friends and family.

One was left by his work colleagues at Silverock Civil Engineering Ltd, based on Medway City Estate, in Strood.

Pictures of Mr Vance have been left at the scene along with notes and cards paying tribute to him.

A spokesman for Medway Police confirmed they were called to the scene.

She said: “We were called at 12.37pm on June 15 to a service station off Main Road, Chattenden, to reports of concern for welfare of a man.

“The man was declared dead at the scene. Kent Police is not treating the death as suspicious.”
