The two-year-old Regan was waiting with his mum for his brother at Spinnens Acre school in Sultan Road, Lordswood, when his entire right leg got stuck in a small open drain.

Within minutes he was surrounded by parents who knocked off his shoe with a ruler and took 25 minutes to free him using a whole bottle of washing-up liquid.

The drama happened last Wednesday just after 3pm. School staff dialled 999 and firefighters were on the way when the tot escaped.

Mum Samantha Richardson said: "Half the school seemed to have heard and came rushing out to help.

"He was screaming and crying ‘get me out, get me out’ – he wanted a cuddle."
