Sheerness RNLI lifeboat was launched this morning

A pregnant woman had to be rescued from a boat after it got stuck on the River Medway this morning.

The RNLI Sheerness lifeboat was launched at around 6.45am after receiving a 999 call from those onboard.

Crews discovered the woman, who was five months pregnant, and an elderly man shivering onboard.

It was originally believed the boat had taken on water near Kingsnorth Power Station, but it was later found stuck near Grain Power Station after a "navigational error".

An RNLI spokesman said: "We located the craft hard aground.

"The lady was seen to be shivering and was advised to come ashore, as was the elderly gentleman onboard.

"It was discovered that the boat had not taken water, a navigation error had simply occurred."

The woman was carried to the lifeboat and both passengers were wrapped in emergency blankets.
