Police have smashed Medway’s multi-milion pound sex industry.

Prostitutes hooked on drugs are being helped off the streets after the launch of a scheme offering housing and support.

It has dealt a blow to drug dealers who rely on their habit to keep them in business.

Police say sex workers can earn up to £150,000 a year much of which ends up in the hands of pushers.

But thanks to the Safe Exit scheme just 20 women were still working regularly on the streets – down from 100 before its launch.

About 30 women have been given housing, medical and educational support.

Police say many of the other 'casual’ workers have given up the work.
