Although a diversion route will be in place involving Station Road, High Street and Otterham Quay Lane, commuters have said traffic in the area was "a nightmare" today.

One parent on the school run said: "There have been traffic problems in Rainham this morning because of the closure of the Lower Rainham Road.

"It was a bit of a nightmare on the school run by all accounts as the alternative route through Wakely Road also has roadworks."
