Witnesses sought after robbery at Asda in Chatham

A man was robbed at a cash point outside a supermarket by a man in a balaclava.

The robbery took place at 6.30pm on Friday, February 10 at the Asda in Maidstone Road, Chatham.

While withdrawing cash, the victim was allegedly grabbed by a man who threatened him and demanded he hand over the money.

He handed over the cash and the masked man walked away towards Maidstone Road.

The suspect was described as a man aged between 20 and 30, slim build and around 5ft8in.

He was wearing a black coat that had a circular emblem on the arm and had his hood up.

He also wore black ripped jeans and light brown shoes. His face covered by a black balaclava.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Scott Kitchener of Medway CID said: "This is an alarming incident which is reported to have happened outside a busy supermarket at a time of day when a lot of shoppers were around.

"We have reviewed CCTV and are continuing to carry out various lines of inquiry.

"We know there were quite a few people near to the incident when it happened and it might be that you saw the robbery and didn’t quite realise what was happening at the time but remember where the suspect went or saw him get into a vehicle.

"If you have any information, no matter what it is, please get in touch."
