Man from St Mary’s Island, Chatham, admits 22 child sex offence charges

A man has admitted he carried out multiple child sex offences.

Matthew Lockwood, of Edgewater on St Mary’s Island, Chatham, was arrested on February 9 and taken into custody.

On February 11, the 47-year-old was charged with obtaining the sexual services of a child, possessing indecent photographs of children and taking an indecent photograph of a child.

Lockwood appeared at Canterbury Crown Court yesterday (September 11) and admitted 22 child sex offences and one drugs charge.

The charges were:

• Two counts of sexual communication with a child

• Three counts of sexual activity with a child

• Three counts of causing sexual exploitation of a child

• Six counts of distributing an indecent image of a child

• Two counts of paying for sexual services of a child

• Causing a child to watch a sexual act

• Five counts of possession of indecent photographs of a child

• Possession of a class B controlled drug.

He has been remanded in custody until his sentencing at Canterbury Crown Court on January 12, 2024.
