Driver crashes in Chatham after heart attack

A man was taken to hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack at the wheel and crashing his car into a lamppost.

Emergency services were called to Street End Road in Chatham at 10am today after the driver - aged in his 60s - lost control of the vehicle, crossed the carriageway and crashed.

Fire crews made the scene safe and the man was taken to Medway Hospital by ambulance.

He was said to be breathing and conscious while being treated by medics.

His wife, who was also in the car, was thought to be uninjured. No other vehicles were involved.
