Squash star Brind eyes England place

KENT squash star Stephanie Brind will be looking for a good performance in this weekend's Maidstone Open to send a message to England selectors.

Number two seed Brind, from Bexleyheath, was left out of the England squad who last week retained the European Team Championship.

Defending Maidstone champion Rebecca Macree, who is the top seed this week, took Brind's place in the squad.

Main challengers in the women's draw are Aisling Blake, who represented Ireland last week in Nottingham, plus Kent girls Mandy Preuss, Candy Wilton, Lucy Murphy and Karen Hume.

Men's top seed Martin Heath pitches up at Maidstone looking for a successful weekend ahead of next week's star-studded PSA Super Series event in London.

Tournament schedule - Friday: Men's first and second rounds, 11am and 6pm. Saturday - women's first round (10.30am); men's quarter-finals (12 noon); women's quarter-finals (5pm); men's semi-finals (6.30 and 7.30pm). Sunday: Women's final (3pm); men's final (4pm). Admission is free.
