Maidstone United goalkeeper Tom Hadler injures elbow and wrist making 'fantastic' save in training

Maidstone are waiting to discover the extent of goalkeeper Tom Hadler’s injury.

Hadler damaged his elbow and wrist during training on Friday, ruling him out of the Wrexham game.

It was rotten luck for the keeper, who only regained his place a week ago following three months out of the side.

After the high of making the winning penalty save in the FA Trophy victory at Notts County, Hadler was back on the sidelines as Maidstone were edged 3-2 by big-spending Wrexham.

Caretaker boss George Elokobi said: “Unfortunately for Tom, in training on Friday he made a fantastic save and tweaked his elbow and his wrist at the same time.

“He gave it a good go, we gave him time to try and recover but we made a decision, a conscious decision as a management team and with Tom.

“Most of the credit goes to Tom because he put the team ahead of his own individual gains, when we all made a decision to say, you know what, let’s get to the bottom of whatever’s wrong.

“The medical team arranged a scan, an X-ray I think, and it’s giving us a little bit of an idea of what we’re dealing with, which is fantastic.

“That’s a quick response from our medical team and we are hopefully going to do an MRI scan to get a clearer picture of what we are dealing with.

“Credit goes to Tom. He even sat on the bench to give me that one more voice.

“That just shows you how much belief and support and solidarity and togetherness there is in the group now.

“We are keeping our fingers crossed it’s not too long before we see him back.”

Yusuf Mersin took the gloves in Hadler’s absence, with on-loan Norwich man Dan Barden among the substitutes.

Elokobi added: “Yusuf was ready to step in and he did well for us - unbelievably well.

“Dan Barden is there, too, biding his time for when the call is going to come for him to deputise as well.

“It’s good to have healthy competition but also the togetherness and collective support from the players, it’s unreal.”
