Work begins on £80m new hospital

Work has begun on Maidstone's new £80m private hospital.

The Kent Institute of Medicine and Surgery will be on a seven-acre site at Newnham Court, near junction 7 of the M20.

It is hoped that it will be open in two years' time.

This is one of the most detailed artist's impressions to emerge of the hospital, which will be made up of several buildings forming a campus.

A roundabout will be built to improve traffic flow around New Cut Road and Bearsted Road.

Planning permission was granted back in 2008, but the recession saw previous backers pull out.
