Life at The Len - 50 years ago

Fifty years ago Clarence Reynolds worked at The Len Cabinet Works in Maidstone.

The company made furniture - one if every 20 chairs sold in Britain at the time was made in Maidstone.

One day, Clarence took his camera to work and shot a roll of film taking pictures of his fellow workmates.

He took the film out the camera, stuck it a drawer and forgot about it. He never developed the film.

Now half a century on, the Kent Messenger has and in this Friday's paper we will publish a two-page spread of the photos which have never been seen before.

It is a unique record of life at The Len, which has long since been demolished. Even the road where it stood has gone - buried underneath the Chequers Mall Shopping Centre.
