Fire fighters attended Fremlin Walk this afternoon after receiving reports of a burning car.

The vehicle pulled into the car park shortly before 3pm and a fire started in its engine.

The driver pulled over on the first floor and three adults and two children exited the vehicle.

The centre’s managers and security staff closed all entrances to the car park and began an evacuation.

The fire was tackled and quickly extinguished by security staff with nearby fire extinguishers.

The fire engines attended the incident shortly after.

Extraction fans in the multi-storey car park were used and worked by applying positive pressure ventilation to ensure nobody was affected by smoke.

Centre manager Lloyd Wright said: “The centre management's emergency plans were executed effectively by management and security personnel.

“While the car is badly damaged, nobody was hurt and the building is intact.

“Kent Fire and Rescue were happy with the way Fremlin Walk staff managed the incident.”
