Crafty pupils help to raise funds

Creative Fridays gave way to fund-raising Fridays when youngsters sold items they had been working on for five weeks.

Pupils at Oak Trees Community School, Maidstone spent five Friday afternoons making items including bird boxes, coasters and apple pies, to raise funds for a school in Malawi.

The youngsters then sold the goods to parents to help the Lifidtzi Primary School in Malawi, which Oak Trees has supported for three years.

The sale raised about £180 for the Starfish Malawi charity, of which Lifidtzi is part.

Oak Trees deputy head teacher Janet Parkinson said: “They have developed their own skills through their own curriculum here and then they have supported children who have nothing like the facilities we have.”
