The Save Our Heath Lands campaign group has organised a public meeting over Maidstone council's proposal for a garden village at Lenham Heath.

The meeting will be at the Lenham Community Centre, in Groom Way, on Friday, January 24, starting at 7.30pm.

William Cornall, the council's director of regeneration, who has been put in charge of the project, will be on hand to answer questions from the public.

Council leader Martin Cox is also expected to be present.

The council sees the garden village as a way of providing many of the additional 10,500 homes it is being asked to add in its Local Plan Review, but the scheme has not surprisingly met opposition from existing residents worried about the loss of green space and additional traffic with another 5,00 dumped on them.

The scheme includes a new stop for the Hi Speed rail line.
