Women's weekend hockey round-up

CANTERBURY'S resurgence in the second half of the Slazenger English Premier Division campaign continued with a 3-1 win at Chelmsford.

Canterbury won only one of the eight league games before the mid-season break, but have bounced back with two on the trot since the season resumed to cement their place in fifth in the table.

Sarah Kerly opened the scoring for the visitors after 23 minutes and new signing Helen Grant continued her impressive form up front with the second shortly after the half-hour mark.

Chelmsford pulled one back within five minutes but the city club held their nerve and a goal from Susannah Townsend on the hour sealed the points.

In the women's National South Division, Maidstone took a share of the points after securing a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

Rachel Thompson put Maidstone ahead from a penalty corner before Kathryn James pulled Bournemouth level.

Jessica Cremin restored the home side's lead but Lara Kent ensured Bournemouth picked up a point with a late equaliser.

A late goal from Jet Van Zalen ensured Sevenoaks took maximum points from their away game against Firebrands.

Jacqui Ward put the visitors ahead after just two minutes before Georgie Field brought Firebrands level.

Sharon Davy gave Sevenoaks a 2-1 lead at half-time.

In the second half, Van Zalen put Oaks 3-1 ahead before Field scored a late consolation for the home side.
